New York, NY

We are parents, too. We think traveling well and traveling with children shouldn’t be mutually exclusive. We have limited vacation time, and we’re not spending our few days of freedom in lousy hotels eating bad food. We know the world is full of wonderful resorts, cool urban escapes and far-flung lodges that can make our time with our kids count. We want it all, and we don’t think it should be so hard to find. So we’re going to share it with you.

Guide to Copenhagen, Denmark

Amber Hunter

Another day, another city to explore, and Copenhagen is one of our favorites.  Hallie Burton, founder of our go-to line for easy-to-wear and stylish pieces for kids and adults SMOKKS, gives us insight into all the best shops, yummy restaurants, and sites to see when visiting Denmark's beautiful capital city.

A Perfect Day

Wakeup in the kooky Hotel Alexandra and then head to The Union Kitchen for a breakfast of toasted rye with avocado. Then, head over to the amazing Harbor Baths which is worth the trip just for the people watching. For an afternoon pick me up, take a trip to the "torvehallerne markets" for plenty of food-spiration. The traditional lunch comprised of pulled duck on a baguette with arugula and mustard is divine. Take a train ride to the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art or head to Arken, an equally stunning museum. And if you have any energy left, end the evening with the Tivoli Gardens

All of the shopping in Copenhagen is amazing--but make sure to factor in the high sales tax, although many stores will refund it at the airport or in store.

Illums Bolighus: This store is not to be missed, with its Danish designer and beyond perfect homewares.

Illum: the biggest store, with all the clothing designers you could wish for and a great shoe department, not to mention a fab restaurant on the top floor.

Hay: A Danish classic and the place to go for beautiful homewares.

Day: Malene Birgers divine store, and her main label remains available at Illums.

Gubi: A design lovers heaven

Normann Copenhagen: For the ultimate souvenir--the famous shore bird--and a whole bunch more beautiful homeware

The Apartment: A worth while adventure that's by appointment only

Others to check out: Stilleben, Hope, Georg Jensen, and Tortus Copenhagen

Madklubben: The perfect stop that's full of locals and families after a long day of walking for a divine Prix Fix three course meal.

Restaurant Gorilla: Has a super tasty lobster roll!

Restaurant Otto: A great pick for date night.

Manfreds: For the vegetarian lovers.

Fiat: A fun Italian restaurant with good food and a better vibe.

A few more date night picks: Geranium, Era Ora, and Noma

See & Do

Tivoli Gardens: Perfect for some family friendly exploration.

Natmus: A national museum full of history.

Louisiana Museum of Modern Art: As mentioned above, a stunning art museum worth the train ride.

Kongernes Samling Rosenberg: Who doesn't want to visit a beautiful castle?

Harbour Bath Islands: Simply amazing. Go for a swim in the center of the city.

Royal Smushi Tea House: A fun tea house to visit.

Fish Kiss: All the local women were getting fish pedicures and while it's a little strange, it's definitely worth the experience!

Something to Note: Norwegian airline offers great, budget flights for reasonable family travel. And if you are an American Express card holder with the priority pass, you can wait and get complimentary beauty treatments at the Air France Lounge right across from the boarding gate.
