New York, NY

We are parents, too. We think traveling well and traveling with children shouldn’t be mutually exclusive. We have limited vacation time, and we’re not spending our few days of freedom in lousy hotels eating bad food. We know the world is full of wonderful resorts, cool urban escapes and far-flung lodges that can make our time with our kids count. We want it all, and we don’t think it should be so hard to find. So we’re going to share it with you.

Family Time at the Sagamore, Lake George

Henley Vazquez

Traveling mama, Elisa Carbone Brown, is at it again! Last time she reported from a kiddo-friendly vacay in St. John, now she's filling us in on her family trip to the Sagamore in Lake George, New York. The Sagamore, a four hour drive from NYC, is a classic lakeside getaway. Think Victorian-style manor home meets Dirty Dancing summer lodge. There is plenty to do from tennis and water sports to golf and spa. And nobody puts our babies in a corner!

Lake Life Meets East Coast Prep

It is always hard keeping my crew on dry land and this vacation was no exception. While we spent the mornings rotating between the pool and the tennis courts, the afternoons were completely devoted to lake life. Boating, tubing and fishing are the core of Lake George and The Sagamore did not disappoint. The children never wanted to return to shore!

Pool Bar or The Pavilion

The sunset from the Veranda is not to be missed. Order a glass of Rose and relax on the Adirondack chairs while the kids run around the lawn.

Club Grill Steakhouse:  The classic lodge restaurant. I highly recommend the killer surf and turf.

Mr. Brown's Pub: Casual spot for burgers and sanwiches.

La Bella Vita: Traditional Italian favorites with panoramic views of the Lake.

My baby girl (age 7) loved the nightly bonfires and s'mores while the older kids (age 10-16) closed down The Recreation Center each night. Billiard tables, ping-pong matches, indoor basketball games, mini golf and wiffle ball home run derby's  kept the kids entertained for hours. We cannot wait to return to The Sagamore this August!
