We are parents, too. We think traveling well and traveling with children shouldn’t be mutually exclusive. We have limited vacation time, and we’re not spending our few days of freedom in lousy hotels eating bad food. We know the world is full of wonderful resorts, cool urban escapes and far-flung lodges that can make our time with our kids count. We want it all, and we don’t think it should be so hard to find. So we’re going to share it with you.

Something to Declare: Coco Rocha

Henley Vazquez

We were very excited to catch up with super model and new mom, Coco Rocha at Grand Banks in NYC to celebrate the opening of the new W Hotel in Amsterdam. Obviously, we had a few questions to ask her about how she travels in style with her beautiful daughter Ioni, who at five months old already has over 40K Instagram followers! Fun fact: Coco's mom was a flight attendant, so travel is really the family business.

Q: HAVE YOU GONE ON ANY TRIPS AS A FAMILY YET?

We just had a baby [her daughter Ioni was born in March], so we've been to Canada to see my relatives and that's about it. In the next few weeks and months, fashion week is happening around the world and she'll be coming along with us.

Q: HAS ANYONE GIVEN YOU ANY GOOD ADVICE ABOUT TRAVELING WITH A BABY?

We are avoiding red-eyes, but she didn't make a peep on the four flights she's done so far. That said, she's a whole new baby since those four flights, so who knows what I'm going to get this time!

Q: AS A CHILD, WHAT ARE YOU BEST MEMORIES OF TRAVELING?

My mom was a flight attendant and my whole family works in the airline industry, so I did a lot of traveling as a kid. If my mom couldn't get a babysitter, I'd be on that flight with her. There were a lot of flights to Asia, in fact, everywhere. My favorites were probably going to Egypt, and Botswana on safari. I just like things that are not necessarily your normal vacations — to get lost in a new city and try to find your way home. My husband and I went to Greece once and took 4x4s out without a map. Our phone died and we had to find out hotel, which we couldn't even pronounce. We loved it.

Q: HOW HAS TRAVEL CHANGED YOUR VALUES, HAS IT OPENED YOU UP TO DIFFERENT CAUSES?

Definitely. We went to Haiti a year after the earthquake and just seeing how the children were affected there had a real impact. I'm involved in a lot with charities with children, in particular I work worth with a charity [Senhoa], which supports kids in Cambodia affected by human trafficking.

Flying with a baby is...

Calming right now.

Never board a plane without...

An iPad.

If parents could design a hotel room they would have...

Baby cribs on the side of my bed because last time I smushed two couches together to form a little bed.

Always pack...

Diapers.

Arrival ritual...

Unpack my clothes very neatly. It's a habit my husband got me into. No joke, I would go straight to bed and sleep, but now I just get it done.

Favorite room service order...

Bolognese. Always.

Favorite destination...

I think Greece was probably one of my favorites.

Most memorable trip...

I would say...
[Husband James Conran chimes in] "Corsica! For our honeymoon..."
Yep, that was very memorable…I guess. [laughing]

We'll always return to...

We try to avoid returning because we think there are so many places in the world that you should definitely try out. But our next one, we think, will be Iceland.

So what's next?

Fashion week is coming up around the world, so we are preparing for that. Especially since its my first season with a baby, so we are going to try to figure that all out. We're talking about, "Do I have outfits prepped yet?" I'm sure that will happen very soon. I also just moved to IMG agency, so I am very excited for that new relationship to see what goes on.

Editor's Note: Stay tuned for more on the opening of the W Amsterdam, opening late September 2015. The hotel will be steps from the charming 9 Streets District as well as the city's famous museums. We'll share more once it's launched, but for now, start planning your trip with our Amsterdam City Guide.
