We are parents, too. We think traveling well and traveling with children shouldn’t be mutually exclusive. We have limited vacation time, and we’re not spending our few days of freedom in lousy hotels eating bad food. We know the world is full of wonderful resorts, cool urban escapes and far-flung lodges that can make our time with our kids count. We want it all, and we don’t think it should be so hard to find. So we’re going to share it with you.

Hotel We Love: Four Seasons Bosphorus, Istanbul

Henley Vazquez

Few destinations offer the fascinating culture clash that is Istanbul. The blend of ancient and modern, East and West plus multiple religions and a strong secular influence make Turkey's seafront city the kind of place we'll return to again and again. It's also wonderful for families, assuming you pick the right hotel where you can balance mornings in the Old Town and the bazaar with less culture-heavy afternoons swimming off the summer heat. The Four Seasons ranks at the top of that list.

  • Four Seasons’ second Istanbul property blends resort amenities with city accessibility for twofer vacation appeal
  • The 170 rooms are divided between an historic palace building and a modern addition
  • Located in Beşiktaş, an upscale neighborhood with high-end boutiques, trendy restaurants and posh hotels

  • Deluxe rooms have partial Bosphorus views, Bosphorus rooms have the full exposure
  • All room categories have connecting options, including the superior rooms
  • Suites have French doors separating the living room and bedroom for privacy while kids are sleeping

  • 90-foot-long swimming pool overlooking the Bosphorus
  • Kid-friendly perks include free strollers for navigating tired tots through the city
  • Many of the city’s most chic dinner restaurants are near the resort

  • Sultanahmet, Istanbul’s Old City, is less than ten miles away but can take a half-hour to reach due to Istanbul’s infamous traffic
  • Only the Palace rooms are in the historic building, with more affordable categories in the newer wing
  • Occupancy rules are strict and families of four must book two rooms
