New York, NY

We are parents, too. We think traveling well and traveling with children shouldn’t be mutually exclusive. We have limited vacation time, and we’re not spending our few days of freedom in lousy hotels eating bad food. We know the world is full of wonderful resorts, cool urban escapes and far-flung lodges that can make our time with our kids count. We want it all, and we don’t think it should be so hard to find. So we’re going to share it with you.

Insider Guide to Ibiza with Kids

Henley Vazquez

Ibiza has many faces: the undiscovered, turquoise-blue coves, the rolling countryside farms,  the swanky, celeb-magnet beach clubs, the ultimate summer club scene. For us, it’s also a dream destination for families, a place that blends traditional Spanish hospitality (i.e. kids are welcome everywhere) with a touch of Continental sophistication. Our go-to resource for everything on the island is Serena Cook, the founder of Deliciously Sorted, Ibiza’s best villa rental company, and the ultimate vacation fixer. After 14 years on the island, she’s got the in with every restaurant, nanny, car service, personal chef and VIP service, but she also knows exactly what stressed-out families need. Here, she shares her favorite child-friendly spots. We can’t wait to try them all.

Beach Clubs

Two of our favorite beach clubs for families are Cala Bassa Beach Club and El Chiringuito Es Cavallet. Both are perfect for a full day on the beach.  Book day beds and enjoy lunch in the excellent restaurants or go for a paddle in the crystal clear waters. El Chiringuito also has a brilliant supervised play area where kiddies can be entertained while you eat.

Best Beaches

Almost every beach in Ibiza is family friendly, but there are a few favorites. Cala Tarida near San Josep has shallow water and a sandy bottom. Nearby is Cala Valdella, another calm cove good for children. On the other side of the island, not far from the famous Las Dalias market, is Cala Nova, which is popular with families and has the great Atzaro Beach restaurant. Cala San Vincente can get busier, but it’s so wide that even in high season you can find space. For something smaller, Niu Blau near Santa Eulalia is small and sweet, plus it’s in an area good for hiking.

Little Adventurers

Whether for the summer camp or daily lessons, Can Mayan in the center of the island near Santa Gertrudis is the place to go for horseback riding lesson. To get well off the beaten track, book a Jeep safari, which takes families off-roading through the little-known areas in the north of the island. It’s the true Ibiza

Family Events

There are two to watch. Kids in Ibiza hosts a number of events throughout the summer, all over the island. Check the calendar on their website to see what’s happening during your stay. Sabina Baby is a newcomer, a family members club near Benirras that runs educational activities like nature walks or language classes for kiddies while the parents relax with a cup of tea or cava or take a yoga class.

If you haven’t booked a babysitter and need some adult time, call Minibiza, a beautiful open-air space in San Josep that has activities for toddlers and young children. It’s a really unique environment and offers parents a chance to sneak away alone. (Tip: Es Torrent is a fantastic restaurant nearby with fish so fresh you place the order when you make your reservation - book Minibiza for the babes and this for mom and dad for a perfect day.)
