We are parents, too. We think traveling well and traveling with children shouldn’t be mutually exclusive. We have limited vacation time, and we’re not spending our few days of freedom in lousy hotels eating bad food. We know the world is full of wonderful resorts, cool urban escapes and far-flung lodges that can make our time with our kids count. We want it all, and we don’t think it should be so hard to find.   • Periwinkle cottage is charming and colorful and located close to the main lodge
  • Silent Pine cottage has a big screened porch for dining alfresco at night, sans mosquitos
  • Firefly cottage is cute and colorful plus next to the main lodge

Basics

  • 36 individual cottages each decorated by a local designer
  • A short drive from quaint Kennebunkport
  • The resort also has two heated swimming pools, two restaurants, a spa, morning yoga classes and nightly bonfires

  • Hotshot chef Ken Oringer runs the resort’s restaurant, Earth
  • Breakfast baskets with coffee and pastries are delivered to your cottage every morning
  • Privacy of a house with individual cottages but the services of a resort

Buts

  • Hidden Pond is near the coast, but the actual beach is a drive or bike ride away (guests can access sister hotel Tides Beach Club, directly on Goose Rocks Beach)
  • Some cottages are one floor and some have two, so choose carefully if traveling with young children
