We are parents, too. We think traveling well and traveling with children shouldn’t be mutually exclusive. We have limited vacation time, and we’re not spending our few days of freedom in lousy hotels eating bad food. We know the world is full of wonderful resorts, cool urban escapes and far-flung lodges that can make our time with our kids count. We want it all, and we don’t think it should be so hard to find. So we’re going to share it with you.

Hotel We Love: The Mark, NYC

Henley Vazquez

Uptown life doesn't get any better than this. For the quintessential New York experience, families flock to the Mark Hotel for proximity to Central Park, Museum Mile and serious shopping and dining. More of a downtown kid? Stay tuned: reviews for our favorite digs in the Village, Soho and Tribeca, coming soon.

  • This 161-room hotel has the Madison Ave location to please an uptown girl and the sleek Art Deco-inspired design that a downtown crowd will love
  • Accommodations range from cozy Courtyard rooms to suites with full kitchens that feel more like stylish pied-a-terres
  • Services include a Frederic Fekkai salon, a small but well-equipped fitness center and doggie amenities for families traveling with pets

  • Junior suites are arranged like traditional one-bedroom suites, with a separate bedroom, two full bathrooms and a queen-sized sofabed in the living room
  • Courtyard, Madison and Seventy-Seven rooms all offer connecting options
  • Courtyard rooms are quieter than those that overlook the street

  • One block from Central Park and steps to top museums, restaurants and shopping
  • Kid-friendly perks include a specially designed fleet of Maclaren strollers for loan as well as tours of the Metropolitan Museum of Art
  • The Mark’s restaurant, overseen by celebrity chef Jean-Georges, has great food and a buzzy bar scene, making an easy date night while a sitter stays upstairs with the kids

  • Courtyard and Seventy-Seven rooms have queen or king beds; only Madison rooms have a king-to-twin connecting option
  • Rooms on lower floors have limited views
  • The custom Republic bicycles are gorgeous, but grab one early if planning for a summer ride in the park
