New York, NY

We are parents, too. We think traveling well and traveling with children shouldn’t be mutually exclusive. We have limited vacation time, and we’re not spending our few days of freedom in lousy hotels eating bad food. We know the world is full of wonderful resorts, cool urban escapes and far-flung lodges that can make our time with our kids count. We want it all, and we don’t think it should be so hard to find. So we’re going to share it with you.

Rome Cavalieri

Rome Cavalieri

  • Built in the 1960s, the 370-room Cavalieri offers families a real five-star resort within striking distance of Rome’s center
  • Room decor veers towards Old World Italian, with heavy valances framing windows, upholstered bed frames and brass fixtures
  • Hotel amenities include four pools, a huge gym and spa, multiple restaurants (including Rome’s only three-star Michelin) and a museum-worthy art collection

  • The best views are city views, which face the center of Rome, whereas the residential views overlook the apartment buildings and communications tower behind the resort
  • All deluxe guest rooms are the same size - over 500 square feet - and include a sitting area, private balcony and connecting option
  • Rooms on the Imperial level are worth the upgrade for access to the complimentary all-day food and drink spreads in the Imperial Club as well as free entry to the pools and gym

  • The four pools, three outdoor and one indoor, include a children’s pool plus there are fifteen acres of gardens and paths to explore
  • Double soundproof doors and blackout blinds make sleeping off jetlag easy
  • The location outside Rome can be a bonus for families who want a trip that’s less heavy on the sightseeing

  • The hotel is a twenty-minute drive from the city center (the hotel provides a free scheduled shuttle)
  • Hotel guests must pay a fee to access the swimming pools, fitness center, jogging path and spa area
  • The Cavalieri is popular for conventions and weddings due to its large size and can feel busy
