We are parents, too. We think traveling well and traveling with children shouldn’t be mutually exclusive. We have limited vacation time, and we’re not spending our few days of freedom in lousy hotels eating bad food. We know the world is full of wonderful resorts, cool urban escapes and far-flung lodges that can make our time with our kids count. We want it all, and we don’t think it should be so hard to find. So we’re going to share it with you.

Babuino 181

Basics

  • Babuino’s 24 rooms are spread between two historic maisonettes just a few blocks from the Spanish Steps
  • Rooms are serene and supremely comfortable, with platform beds decked in Frette linens, large marble bathrooms and blackout shutters that ensure everyone sleeps in on vacation
  • Owned by an Italian noble, Babuino and its sibling hotels Margutta 54 and Mario de’ Fiori 37 feel truly family run, with a friendly staff and a booklet in each room featuring the owner’s favorite local restaurants and shops

Bedtime

  • The deluxe suite is large enough to accommodate a rollaway bed but is open-plan design, without a door to divide sleeping and living areas
  • Deluxe rooms can connect to classic or deluxe suites to create a larger space
  • The Patrizi Suite has a private rooftop terrace

Bests

  • The location between Populo and the Spanish Steps is prime, but the rates are a fraction of what neighboring Hotel de Russie costs
  • The almost-hidden entrance and residential-styled rooms feel like a pied-a-terre more than a hotel
  • Wifi and breakfast are included in the rate

Buts

  • Babuino lacks a restaurant, gym and spa, but breakfast and evening drinks are served on the lovely roof terrace
  • Ten of the rooms are in a neighboring building without a reception desk
  • The lobby area is a small sitting room on the second floor
